Glenys Newby has been a Governor at Cleves Cross Primary School since 2013. She has a degree in Sociology and Social Policy and a Masters degree in Applied Social Sciences. Glenys trained as a social worker and spent over ten years working within Durham County Council. She has worked with children and young people within education settings before moving to Investing In Children. She spent 7 years as Durham’s Children’s Rights Officer, working to ensure that all children and young people got a fair chance and that all groups got the best from the services available.
Throughout her career she has worked with Public and Third Sector organisations who work with and for children and young people. More recently Glenys has been involved in the development of the nationally acclaimed Young Carers Charter, which has successfully been rolled out in primary and secondary schools across County Durham. Glenys has a commitment to working in her local community and she is passionate about all children and young people having a voice in their community.
Glenys joined Cleves Cross Board of Governors as a Community Governor and has attended all Governor meetings at the school and numerous Governor courses to improve her effectiveness in the role. In October 2015 Glenys took up the position of Chair of Governors.
Glenys joined the Board of Directors of the Cleves Cross Learning Trust in May 2016.
